Sixteen92 Winter Collection Review

**Disclaimer that I get these at a discount because I am a part of The Circle subscription and that perfume is deeply personal and vary from nose to nose and skin to skin**

This season's collection is inspired by 20th century poetry, each perfume is going to be linked to its corresponding poem, in case you're interested in reading them. I found that my interpretation of the scent and its relationship to its name changed when I went and read the poem where the name came from.

I am always unexpectedly surprised by Sixteen92's ability to wow me with the perfumes that I would never imagine liking. However, their perfumes that incorporate a lot of sweet notes without being a true gourmand never smell very good to me.

Candy Cane Mocha ★★
This is technically from their holiday sample set, but it made a guest appearance in the box, and is therefore getting reviewed for you. The scent is amazing, but the quality of the perfume itself is a little disappointing. Good news though, I think it will make great bath and body products.

In the Bottle: Peppermint hot cocoa

On the skin: It really does smell like a peppermint mocha, but then it fades to only being candy cane, and then it fades off into a sort of marshmallow scent.

Sillage:

Lasting Time: 1 hour

This smells warm. I don't even know how to explain it. It is feminine leaning unisex and earthy and warm, this would be a four star perfume if I liked these sorts of scents more.

Company Description: sweet sandalwood, texas cedar heartwood, patchouli coeur, black vanilla, grey musk

In the Bottle: florals, and patchouli, and the warmth of liquor as is pours down your throat

On the skin: The florals become more distant, as does the patchouli. There is wood and sweetness, and mostly I get menthol and warmth. It fades into sweet wood and warmth.

Sillage:

Lasting Time: 3-4 hours

Domination of Black ★★

This is a unisex, masculine leaning sort of scent, I like it, but I don't think I personally want to smell like it. I think Domination of Black and And The Days Are Not Full Enough would be a great His and Hers perfume set, actually.

Company Description: orris root, soft suede, white santal, nutmeg, oakwood, lichen, chilled soil

In the Bottle: liquor and sandalwoody esque scent.

On the skin: alcohol, herby spices,  that same warmth as And The Days Are Not Full Enough, pine trees, its a warm earthy scent.

Sillage:

Lasting Time: 3-4 hours

Her Kind ★★
I can really see this scent being loved by a lot of people, it is well done despite seeming like an entirely different perfume in the bottle vs. on the skin. If you like fruity scents, I think this would be awesome in bath and body products, and if you like floral scents I would see if you can snatch up a sample to try this out for yourself.

Company Description: tart cherry, sweet almond, bergamot, sandalwood, ambrette, camellia blossom, tonka, sweet myrrh
In the Bottle: sweet almonds (not marzipan like usual, but actual sweet almonds), maraschino cherries, and a little bit of lemon?

On the skin: Mostly a floral, and vaguely sweet almond, but mostly a floral. Just a hint of spice once its dried down
Sillage:

Lasting Time: 3 hours

This is Just to Say
This is one of the only Sixteen92 perfumes that disappointed me almost completely in every way. It was artificial and abrasive and the notes didn't seem to belong together at all.

Company Description: cake flour, cocoa powder, osmanthus, plum and apricot jam, tonka bean, dried fruits, tangled vines.
In the Bottle: Dark fruity unisex scent. Thinking like plums and artificial "mixed berry" sort of scent.

On the skin: Cough syrup. Like, if I decided to mix cherry and grape cough syrup together this would be it.

Sillage:

Lasting Time: 3-4 hours

Waking In Winter ★★

Honestly, I was looking forward to this scent, and mostly ended up being disappointed.

Company Description: fir needle, hemlock, soft snow, pale woods, delicate mint, frost-blanketed leaves, cold metal, distant hearthsmoke

In the Bottle: Pine trees and mouth wash

On the skin: Sweet foresty mouth wash.

Sillage:

Lasting Time: 3 hours

Sixteen92 Fall/Halloween Collection Review

Just so everyone is aware, I get these collections for a steep discount as part of the Circle subscription. Registration doesn't re-open until next year but the collections are still available on the Sixteen92 website. Also, as usual, perfumes can vary a lot in throw and scent from nose to nose and person to person.

Fall 2015

Bella Lugosi's Dead ★★
I thought I was going to hate this one. It goes against everything I know about my taste in perfumes, but I actually kind of like it.

Company Description: Night-black clove bud, tobacco absolute, smoked benzoin resin, flame.
In the Bottle: cologne and smoke
On the skin: Like if you were ten feet away from campfire where they were roasting cloves. Also, there is a faint antiseptic note, which I don't mind but that might bother people who are afraid of doctors. After about 2 and a half hours, the clove scent fades away, and then its just really smokey.

Sillage:

Lasting Time: 4 hours

(Everyday is) Halloween ★★

This is such a well blended perfume, the notes are unique and special but paired together is perfect proportions which make it smell like a woman's perfume, but a non-traditional one. It has three stars for personal taste reasons, but if you think this is the scent for you I would go for it.

Company Description: An overflowing candy pail, the crunch of leather boots on fallen leaves, cold stones, damp air and a wisp of bonfire smoke.

In the Bottle:  Imagine the smell of a dark and leafy fall evening with a background note of the bottom of a Halloween candy bag. You know, after you've eaten most of the candy and your bag smells like old chocolate and fruity candy (or, for you Australians, the smell of a Cadbury Marvelous Creations bar).

On the skin: Bottom of your candy pail as the background note of a dark perfume.

Sillage:

Lasting Time: Safely 4 hours, more like 6 hours. The perfume fades gracefully.

Last Exit For the Lost ★★

I wanted to love this one more than I actually did. I think Sixteen92 just prefers crisper, more masculine smokey scents than I do. Personally, I wanted a lot more of the orchard apples, and a lot less of everything else, but I still like it.

Company Description: Orchard apples, woven wood baskets, dried hay, distant chimney smoke on cool air.

In the Bottle: Really intense Old Spice deodorant with a background note of apple.

On The Skin: Soft smoke, like when you have walked away from a campfire to go to the bathroom so its not old but it is still subtle. I also get wiffs of the orchard apple which is incredibly real on the skin. There are other aspects to the scent, though none of those throw as far as the two previously described notes and I cannot distinguish them.

Sillage:

Lasting Time: 3-4 hours

Lucretia, My Reflection ★★

Company Description: Orris root, immortelle, white sandalwood, blackened vanilla, star anise.
In the Bottle: Mentholated cologne
On the skin: same as in bottle

Sillage:

Lasting Time: 3 hours? By the end of this is fades into fruity incense, which reminds me a lot of Hecate from the Halloween collection.

Spellbound ★★

Company Description: Creamed pumpkin, spiced bourbon and Tahitian vanillas, sticky marshmallow fluff.

In the Bottle: Butterscotch.

On the skin: A little candley, like if Yankee Candle tried to make a pumpkin spice candle. After several hours it fades into a very very faint toasted marshamallow jelly bean.

Sillage:

Lasting Time: 5ish hours

Halloween 2015 (the ones I had time to review so you can still order them)

Baby Yaga ★★

I really wanted to like this because the notes and the name and everything about it is just so perfectly witchy, and as it turns out I do quite like it. If you have ever tried Sixteen92's scents and thought they were too dark or too heavy as I often do you might really like this one.

Company Description: Fiery dragon's blood incense, sweet woodsmoke, dried herbs, dripping candle wax, forest dirt

In the Bottle: fruit and herbs, surprisingly light. Think of like strawberry basil, but much more ambiguous.

On the skin: Up close it is a little bit like fruity incense, but it's well balanced, and from a distance (as in not pushing my wrist up to my face) I kind of like it.

Sillage:

Lasting Time: Safely 4 hours but lasts for more like 6 hours before it fades away completely

Hecate ★★

Company Description: Tart cranberry, benzoin, fir needle, dark chocolate, smoldering incense, dry leaves.

In the Bottle: faint old penny, something vaguely reminiscent of those Brookside candies, and some incense

On the skin: Weird, fruity incense

Sillage:

Lasting Time: Safely 4 hours.
